I’m gonna send him to outer space, to find another race…
Nu știu câți dintre voi știți, dar NASA are cont pe Instagram, iar fotografiile sunt absolut geniale. Adică, să fim serioși, e vorba de imagini din spațiu, așa că nu au cum să fie altfel decât grozave.
Want to #BeAnAstronaut? We're hiring. Applications are now open. Apply today on USAJOBS: http://go.nasa.gov/BeAnAstronaut The next class of astronauts may fly on any of four different U.S. spacecraft during their careers: the International Space Station (@ISS), two new commercial spacecraft being built by U.S. companies, and NASA's Orion deep-space exploration vehicle. To date, we've selected more than 300 astronauts to fly our increasingly challenging missions to explore space and benefit life on Earth. More will be needed for future missions to the space station and beyond on our journey to Mars. #NASA #Space #Astronaut #BeAnAstronaut #Explore #Science #Astronomy
De altfel, în felul acesta am găsit și profilul lui Scott Kelly, un astronaut, care pune periodic imagini din misiune. În plus selfie-urile cu Pământul sunt dășit! Really, now!
New Spaceflight Record! Just before the 15th anniversary of continuous human presence on the International Space Station (@ISS) on Nov. 2, 2015, U.S. astronaut Scott Kelly (@StationCDRKelly) is breaking spaceflight records. On Friday, Oct. 16, Kelly begins his 383rd day living in space, surpassing U.S. astronaut Mike Fincke's record of 382 cumulative days. Kelly will break another record Oct. 29 on his 216th consecutive day in space, when he will surpass astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria's record for the single-longest spaceflight by an American. Lopez-Alegria spent 215 days in space as commander of the Expedition 14 crew in 2006. In this July 12 photograph, Kelly is seen inside the Cupola, a special module which provides a 360-degree viewing of the Earth and the space station. On each additional day he spends in orbit as part of his one-year mission, Kelly will add to his record and to our understanding of the effects of long-duration spaceflight. Kelly is scheduled to return to Earth on March 3, 2016, by which time he will have compiled 522 total days living in space during four missions.
Psychedelic Pluto: New Horizons scientists made this false color image of Pluto using a technique called principal component analysis to highlight the many subtle color differences between Pluto's distinct regions. The image data were collected by the spacecraft’s Ralph/MVIC color camera on July 14 at 11:11 AM UTC, from a range of 22,000 miles (35,000 kilometers). Rebel Galaxy: Most galaxies possess a majestic spiral or elliptical structure. About a quarter of galaxies, though, defy such conventional, rounded aesthetics, instead sporting a messy, indefinable shape. Known as irregular galaxies, this group includes NGC 5408, the galaxy that has been snapped here by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. John Herschel recorded the existence of NGC 5408 in June 1834. Astronomers had long mistaken NGC 5408 for a planetary nebula, an expelled cloud of material from an aging star. Instead, bucking labels, NGC 5408 turned out to be an entire galaxy, located about 16 million light-years from Earth in the constellation of Centaurus (The Centaur). Our Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter recently captured a unique view of Earth from the spacecraft's vantage point in orbit around the moon. Seen in this composite image, we see Earth appear to rise over the lunar horizon from the viewpoint of the spacecraft, with the center of the Earth just off the coast of Liberia. On the moon, we get a glimpse of the crater Compton, which is located just beyond the eastern limb of the moon, on the lunar farside. LRO was launched on June 18, 2009, and has collected a treasure trove of data with its seven powerful instruments, making an invaluable contribution to our knowledge about the moon. LRO experiences 12 earthrises every day; however the spacecraft is almost always busy imaging the lunar surface so only rarely does an opportunity arise such that its camera instrument can capture a view of Earth.
